Godley is a city in northern Johnson County, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. It is located northwest of Cleburne on Texas State Highway 171, Farm Roads 2331 and 917, and the rails of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway. In 2010, the population was 1,009, up from 879 in 2000.

Godley was named after R. B. Godley, a Cleburne timber dealer who contributed an 8-acre (3.2 hectare) townsite and 20 acres (8.1 ha) of property as a right-of-way to the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway. In 1886, a station was built. Godley had a gristmill, three cotton gins, and two dairy-processing businesses by the time the post office opened in 1888. It had two general shops four years later. The population was 613 during the mid-1920s. It was 378 in 1930, with twenty-two rated firms operating nearby. In the 1940s, the town had 317 residents and twenty enterprises. It had a population of 424 people and sixteen enterprises in 1956 and 569 people and twelve businesses in 1990.
